Fasting is an integral part of the Syro-Malabar spiritual life — preparing the heart for the great feasts and uniting us with the suffering of Christ.
Abstinence is practised from 1 to 25 December in preparation for Christmas.
8 days fast for the feast of Blessed Virgin Mary
Great Lent is a period of spiritual preparation, repentance, and fasting observed primarily in Eastern Christianity. Spanning roughly 48 days, the season aims to cleanse the mind and body. Believers dedicate themselves to prayer, fasting (typically abstaining from meat and dairy), and almsgiving to draw closer to God.
Note: Specific fasting rules and dispensations vary by eparchy and individual circumstance. Please consult your parish priest or local eparchial guidelines for detailed observance requirements.
